What happens at my pre-session consultation?
Your pre-session consultation is held over the phone or meeting in a coffee shop. During this time, I will get to know your dog’s personality, including what gets his tail wagging, what drives him bonkers, and what I need to do to create a safe and enjoyable experience for both you and your pet. We will also talk about session expectations, possible locations, and address any additional questions or concerns that you may have regarding what to wear, how to prepare, and ways to display your images.

My dog isn't an obedient school all star & doesn't do well off-leash: can you still get amazing photos?
Absolutely! In fact, some of the most fun and fetching shots happen when dogs are just being dogs. My goal for Pet Sessions is to catch the personality of the animal. Sure, it is helpful to know basic commands, but it is certainly not essential. No matter how obedient (or disobedient) your dog is, you’ll walk away from your session with a range of creative, personality-filled shots. Don’t let the worry of your dog’s behavior deter you from booking a session; there are countless techniques (and patience) I use to bring out the best in your furry sidekick.
As for leashes, almost every dog I photograph is leashed for safety and I provide complimentary leash removal during post-processing. If you feel your dog is well behaved we can always try to remove the leash, your dog may do better than you think. If your dog will be wearing a leash to your session, I simply recommend a thin, neutral/black-colored lead. Please do not put your dog on a harness for the session, it is impossible to remove and it will take away from the natural look of your dog.
What do I need to do to prepare my dog (& myself) for our session?
To help your session run smoothly and make it a fun experience for you and your dog, I encourage you to arrive at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to our shoot to allow your pup to familiarize himself with the surroundings. Exercise goes a long way in burning off that nervous energy, so consider a short walk or game of fetch, or review some basic commands; just be sure not to tire your pup out too much.
Your dog will photograph best if groomed within a few days of his session. Choose a clean well-fitting collar that complements your dog’s coloring and your clothing.
Don’t forget to bring along your dog’s favorite toys or treats. Whether your dog is food-motivated or rocks an adorable head tilt at the squeak of a ball, play and rewards go a long way in bringing out your pup’s personality.
Where will my session take place?
That’s entirely up to you! If you think you have the perfect spot in mind, I’d love to hear about it! If you have no idea, don’t sweat it. I have a diverse location list and I'm happy to offer suggestions based on the feel and style you desire for your session. While I love shooting on-location, I can easily come to your home or backyard as well, if that's where you believe your pet will feel more at ease in front of the camera. Also I do offer studio time as well if you prefer the commerical portrait look.
How long will my session last?
Most sessions average one hour. Some dogs may require more time, some may need less. We will work until we have a variety of diverse shots and always at your pet's pace to ensure he is comfortable, relaxed, and enjoying our time together.
What happens after my session?
Roughly 2-3 weeks following your session we'll get together for your big reveal and in-person ordering appointment. I love this part because there's nothing more rewarding to me than seeing my clients' faces as they view the photos of their pet(s) for the first time--and there are special treats for you and your pet!
At this time, we will narrow down your favorite images together, talk about how you wish to feature them in your home, and finalize those must-have images and products. From there, your custom artwork order is placed for you to enjoy for years to come.

How many images do you typically show?
I believe in quality over quantity and will present you with the best of the best images from your session, generally 15-20. The actual number of presented images is based on length of session, the number of subjects, etc.

Do you only photograph dogs?
While dogs are my specialty and my absolute favorite, I do photograph cats as well , so don't be shy about inquiring. I'd love the opportunity to photograph your four-legged friend!
Do you offer family sessions?
As a portrait photographer, I do offer people-only sessions. I love when pet parents join in--and I encourage you to jump in at least a few shots--but since my goal is to capture the joy and love between pets and their people, the focus on every session will be on the pet.
What types of payment do you take?
I accept cash, and personal checks, for payment during your reveal and ordering appointment.
What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
I understand that unexpected things happen. While your session retainer is non-refundable, should we need to cancel due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, we will work together to reschedule your shoot for a mutually agreed upon future date.
Clients who fail to show or who cancel their session one calendar day or less before the session date will forfeit their non-refundable session retainer.
In the unlikely event that your dog passes away prior to our session, your session retainer will be refunded.

How do I book?
Give me a call at (810)813-5888 or use the convenient form located under CONTACT. In order to secure your session date and time, your non-refundable session retainer is due in advance of your session.
